Email Continuity.cloud

The Symantec Email Continuity.cloud service provides an affordable standby email failover system that activates in minutes, providing virtually uninterrupted access to email in the event of a mail server outage. The email continuity service is synchronized with your primary email system including contacts, calendars, distribution lists and global address lists.

During an outage, users continue to access email functionality through Outlook, a BlackBerry device, or a Web browser. Email, contacts, and calendar items are automatically resynchronized when the primary email system is back online. The service is hosted at an off-site location so if you have an unplanned outage at your physical site, email will be available when the email continuity service is activated. Security of the service is underpinned by advanced encryption technologies for email in transit and stored in data centers.

How Email Continuity.cloud works

In the event of an outage in your primary system, the service is activated by your IT Department either through a phone call or via a secure Web based interface. Your end users are provided with email access though Microsoft Outlook, a web browser or mobile device.

  • When your primary system is operating normally, Email Continuity.cloud receives a copy of every email.
  • In the event of an email outage, you identify the servers, storage groups, or mailboxes affected. You then activate the system (by phone or via a web console) and opt to failover any subset of users by mailbox, server, location, or storage group.
  • During the outage, all activated users have access to email and, for Microsoft users, contact lists and calendar entries.
  • When your primary system is back online, all email sent or received during the outage is restored to your email server.
  • You can prioritize the order in which servers, storage groups or mailboxes are synchronized back to the email server.
